Today was the last day of the camp for the girls. There was a semi-final game and the final game of the tournament. Afterward, we passed out awards and certificates to each of the teams and special awards to some of the girls who showed exceptional qualities, such as "best attitude", "MVP", "best offensive player", "best defensive player" and "hardest worker". It was tough saying goodbye to the girls, but we were able to get some of their contacts so we can keep in touch and try to help them out more.
Sylvia (the girl in yellow) was one of our favorite girls because she was always so joyful and would ask if we needed her help. She brought high energy all the time and very supportive and thankful for everything going on around her. She treated all the teams very well and accepted anyone she was around with joy, smiling constantly from ear to ear.
We were able to play a short game against the coaches. Some referees from the tournament played on our team. The crowd was ecstatic to watch white people play, especially the girls. The crowd of 600 people went wild every time one of the white girls beat the Ugandan coach and laughed hysterically. The game ended with a tie, with Cora scoring our only goal! Pastor Tom took this opportunity to share the Gospel in front of all these people and tell them that Jesus Christ loves them, no matter who they are.
This journal entry explains what the past five days have looked like for us. They've been incredible in so many ways, but a lot of times we would leave the house at 8am and return at 11pm. After the chaotic day we try to reflect, but we end up writing a sentence, falling asleep, then drooling all over our journal! But we wouldn't trade this hard work for anything!
Joseph Quote of the day:
Tammy- "Hey Joseph, are you hurt?"
Joseph- "I am not hurt. I am not limping. I am walking in style."
