It is 5:00am on Saturday morning. She jumps out of bed, eats breakfast and has
her Golden Warrior soccer uniform on by 5:30am.
She sits on the front porch and completes her game day attire with a
headband, shin guards, socks and cleats.
By 5;45am she is fully dressed and juggling the soccer ball, while
anticipating her 10:00am match time.
From the moment I started playing soccer as a six-year-old
child my passion for the game, and my hunger for competition, overwhelmed me
with excitement and a permanent readiness to play. It woke me up hours before a match, ready to
compete and win, and now as a 36-year-old woman I know God instilled that
readiness and excitement in me for a reason; a reason far beyond my own
athletic opportunities and abilities.
Having been on a soccer team from the time I was a little
girl—all the way from club soccer to NCAA Division II College Soccer and then
finally as an NCAA Division II College Soccer Coach for 12 years, I find myself
flying over the Nile River in pursuit of Uganda, Africa to bring organized
soccer to some of the poorest 16-year-old girls in the world. I believe God has been preparing me for this
venture since I was six-years-old and now 30 years later He is giving me the
opportunity to share this game, and ultimately His love, with some of the most
forgotten young ladies in the world.
